I don't think I ever mentioned it to you but a few weeks ago I was giving a talk on Vitamin Angels during which I spoke about our Albendazole program. After the talk, a woman in the audience came up to me, her voice quavering and said, "Your talk really shook me up. I don't think I have ever heard anyone talk about parasitic worms before. That was me you were talking about!" Jolie lives in Santa Barbara now and is a dancer, but she grew up in the Philippines. She told me about growing up with worms and how humiliating it was for her and how shamed she was when they had to pull the worms out of her. I guess it was a painful experience that she has tried to put far behind her. She was so thankful that we were distributing Albendazole and sparing many children from this horrific experience. I was totally stunned — I had never expected this type of response. I wish you were there with me to hear this story. It was incredible to see this woman (now in Santa Barbara) and think back to how her childhood must have been.
