Mission Accomplished
from Jeff Morgan, Change a Life International, Inc.

A late spring 2000 medical missions trip hosted by Change a Life International, Inc. (Jeff Morgan) to Puerto Bermudez, Peru, in the Amazon River basin and Chincha Alta in the Pacific Coast area of Peru, was a great success thanks in part to the help of Echo and its efforts to equip people with information.

In the March 2000 issue of Echo News, there was a story entitled, The Worm Story. This story was about the problem with worms in foreign countries and a new medicine discovered to help in the aid of treatment of worms. With this information, Jeff was put in contact with Claude Good and purchased the minimum order of 20,000 Albendazol "worm" pills to assist in the medical trip to Peru.

This medicine enabled the group to treat 350 people along the Amazon River basin and 350 people in the Pacific Coastal area. The doctors that accompanied the group were pleased that they weren't giving out a "temporary fix" to the worm problem, but that with just one 400 mg Albendazole pill, the treatment would last four to six months. Every person that was seen, with the exception of maybe three cases, was diagnosed with worms causing them to be weak and skinny.

While in Peru, the group stopped at a drug store out of curiosity to see what the price of the Albendazole is locally. They were amazed that for two pills, equaling the 400 mg dosage, it cost thirty soles (their currency). This amount would take more than half, if not all, of their weekly wages.

Thanks to Echo and Claude Good the group was able to administer to the people an effective worm medicine that they wouldn't have been able to obtain themselves financially.
